The target audience of the webinar: all professionals, whose success at work depends on establishing productive interpersonal relationships with other people.
Interpersonal communication is one of the most popular subjects in the higher education curriculum in Western Europe and the United States. This young discipline explores a range of theoretical and practical approaches to establishing, developing and maintaining interpersonal relationships, resolving conflicts and fostering understanding between people of different cultures. This is why interpersonal communication is often studied within the same program with courses of intercultural communication and conflict management.
Course Objective: To introduce learners to a number of effective approaches to creating harmonious interpersonal relationships.
- Communicative needs – needs of inclusion, affection, control, power, identity, privacy and self-efficacy, ways of meeting these needs, and ways of looking for resources.
- Models of interpersonal communication -differences between models of action, interaction, transaction and co-action. Choice of the model that fits a certain situation.
- Communication contexts- physical, situational, socio-psychological, temporal, natural and cultural contexts of interpersonal communication, and ways of adapting to them.
- Styles of perception and communication- effective ways of communication with audials, visuals, kinesthetics and digitals.
- Communication noises- overcoming physical, physiological, emotional and semantic noises in the process of interpersonal communication.
- Buber Continuum – studies the main differences between the role-based (“impersonal”) and “personal” human behavior, and five characteristics of such behaviors at either side of the continuum.
- Tri-Level Continuum- takes a more detailed look at the Buber continuum, studying human behavior in terms of instincts, social expectations and internalized beliefs.
- Deliberate and unintentional communication- teachers learners how to prevent unintentional messages from leading to inadequate interpretation of communication with insufficient data.
- Setting SMART goals – setting specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-limited goals, creating a plan of action for development of interpersonal communication.
- Steps to reaching communicative competence- development of competence by means of increasing your motivation and knowledge and creating a plan of action.
Duration: 2 days – 5 hours a day.
Instruction Format: mini-lectures and practical cases, filling in workbooks, questions and answers.
